Keith Haring Appreciation and Information

Just wanted to say "hello." I wondered if there was a Keith Haring group...and lookie, I found it :O)

Many years ago (okay, not that many...but it feels like it) I went to New York and we went to the Pop Shop on Lafayett Street (sp?) it was totally awesome...to be surrounded by something that Keith Haring actually painted. It was beyond words.

Anyway, how did you all get into Keith Haring's art? I know for me I saw a special on Nickaloden (back in the '80s when it was cool) on him and was hooked. I also remember seeing Clarissa Explains It All and she had his art in her bed room.

Okay, guess that's all :O)

Unfortunately, The Pop Shop that me and my family loved is closed. We went to it the last two days it was opened and I had to take pictures. Here are a few of The Pop Shop, who certainly do not do it justice.

Pop Shop 2

Pop Shop 3

Pop Shop 4

Pop Shop 5

Pop Shop 6

Pop Shop 7

After I took all of the pictures above I went shopping in Soho and these two buses were oddly in front of the store I went to. So I took a picture of them too.

It's so cool to see that there is a community devoted to keith haring here. I had the good fortune to go to a retrospective exhibit of his about 10 years ago, which was amazing. I have been a huge fan of his work since i was young, and i even have a tattoo of his art.

This is the part where i show off my dorky tattoo.Collapse )

Keith Haring Appreciation and Information

Im doing a report on Keith Haring for my English class! Ive known about him for quite a while before I started this project, but now that Ive studied him, Im really interested. Well anyway..I was looking for some "interesting information" about Keith. Not that there is boring info, but stuff that would interest the average 10th grade High School Student.
Thanks for the input!

There's a good Haring tribute site , over here.
I think it's mostly in dutch but it's relatively simple to understand and features a lot of pictures.

Yay! I'm so happy someone finally created a Keith Haring Community. I'm Sushi and I have been fascinated by Keith Haring's artwork since I was a child. I live in New York and I frequently visit the Pop Shop on Lafayette Street. So I just thought I should introduce myself. =)

Keith Haring Appreciation and Information

I can't remember the exact time or day that I became aware of Keith Haring. In a way he's just always been around, through his work and name. I was seven years old when he passed away, so I didn't get to see him at the height of his career, instead I've tried to learn as much as I could aboout him by looking back. I have collected magazines from the eighties and read all the books I could find. What speaks the loudest though, is the art. It's bold and colorful, the figures might be simple but at the same time they are very powerful. His works are distinctive and recognizable, as much as the Coca Cola or McDonalds logo.

There are and have been people in this world who I wish could stick around forever. Haring was one of those.
